EU MEPs agree priorities for the EU’s first Anti-Corruption Strategy 2026–2029, calling for tougher anti-corruption measures, stronger enforcement and greater accountability
MEPs call for the EU to become a full member of GRECO, bringing EU institutions under the same anti-corruption scrutiny as national authorities. Other priorities include tighter controls on public procurement, conflicts of interest, lobbying and political funding, stronger protection for whistleblowers. They also seek closer enforcement cooperation to trace, freeze and recover criminal proceeds…
GRECO’s 4th Round Compliance Report Addendum on Hungary finds 8 of 18 anti-corruption rec. outstanding, with no progress on parliamentary integrity or judicial accountability
Despite improvements in public consultation on legislation, MPs still lack binding ethics rules, lobbying safeguards and effective conflict-of-interest oversight. GRECO also raises concerns about broad judicial and prosecutorial immunity, the Prosecutor General’s tenure and disciplinary independence, requiring Hungary to report further progress by March 2027…
GRECO’s 5th Round Compliance Report on Hungary finds 24 of 29 anti-corruption rec. unimplemented, highlighting gaps in government integrity and law enforcement accountability
The assessment identifies 24 unimplemented and five partially implemented recommendations, highlighting persistent weaknesses in conflicts of interest, political advisers’ integrity rules, police accountability and whistleblower protections. Despite limited progress on access to information, public consultation and corruption risk mapping, GRECO calls for stronger safeguards and more decisive implementation of outstanding reforms…
UK SFO updates Corporate Cooperation Guidance, allowing companies to discuss potential self-reports of fraud, bribery and corruption directly with senior legal counsel
The revised guidance clarifies that companies should take a proportionate, risk-based approach to identifying the full extent of suspected criminal conduct. Companies that self-report promptly and cooperate fully will generally be invited to negotiate a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA), unless exceptional circumstances apply. The SFO also confirms that, wherever possible, DPA negotiations should conclude within six months of the company…
UK Govt consults on whistleblowing reforms and proposed financial rewards for reporting economic crime to the SFO, with feedback open until 8 Jan 2027
The consultation examines changes to whistleblower protections under the Employment Rights Act 1996, including safeguards against workplace detriment. It also seeks views on a proposed SFO scheme to financially reward individuals who provide information on economic crime. The proposals aim to strengthen whistleblower protections and encourage the reporting of financial wrongdoing. Responses are invited until 8 January 2027…
US DoJ arrests Colombian national over alleged laundering of more than $2 billion linked to bribery schemes involving Venezuelan government officials
One case concerns approximately $1.6 billion in contracts to supply food and medicine, allegedly secured through bribes and inflated prices; the other involves approximately $350 million linked to a government-controlled currency exchange and housing contracts. Prosecutors allege that funds were moved through US and overseas bank accounts to conceal illicit proceeds. The charges remain allegations, and Pulido Vargas is presumed innocent…
GRECO’s Fifth Interim Compliance Report on Denmark finds no progress on parliamentary integrity reforms for six years, with all four anti-corruption recommendations still outstanding
The report highlights the absence of a comprehensive parliamentary code of conduct, mandatory conflict-of-interest disclosures and effective oversight of MPs’ financial interests, despite repeated calls for reform. Following Denmark’s refusal to implement further measures, GRECO has terminated its compliance procedure while expressing serious dissatisfaction with the country’s continued non-compliance.
US DoJ announces that a former TD Bank employee had pleaded guilty to accepting more than $8,000 in bribes and facilitating the laundering of approx. $4.8M from the US to Colombia
Gerardo Aquino had pleaded guilty to accepting more than $8,000 in bribes and facilitating the laundering of approximately $4.8 million from the US to Colombia between April 2022 and November 2023. He allegedly opened 86 customer accounts using the same Miami commercial address, issued hundreds of debit cards to co-conspirators and unblocked cards restricted over potential fraud. The accounts and cards were used to move illicit funds…
FCA’s Blog on whistleblower engagement reveals a 22% rise in reports, with 42% of 1,252 closed cases prompting direct action and 53% informing wider regulatory work
FCA reported a 22% rise in whistleblowing reports over the previous year. Of the 1,252 reports closed, 42% led to direct action to manage or reduce harm, while 53% informed wider regulatory work and harm prevention. The regulator acknowledged challenges in communicating outcomes to whistleblowers and recognised the personal pressures they may face. Independent non-executive director Lea Paterson will review the FCA’s handling of a…
UNODC report reveals 251 tonnes of illicit medical products seized in Central Africa between 2020-2025, with links to organised crime, corruption and conflict financing
Produced with WHO and CEMAC, the report identifies cross-border trafficking networks distributing falsified, unauthorised and diverted medicines through maritime, air and land routes, with armed groups potentially profiting from the trade. It calls for harmonised legislation, stronger criminal justice responses and greater international cooperation to disrupt trafficking networks and protect public health…

Topics include corruption risks within supply chains, engaging SMEs in compliance programmes, board-level responsibility for integrity, digitalisation and the relationship between corruption and human rights…
GRECO finds Kazakhstan remains insufficiently compliant with its anti-corruption recommendations, despite progress on procurement, financial investigations and transparency
GRECO’s Second Compliance Report finds that Kazakhstan has satisfactorily implemented six of 27 recommendations, with 19 partly implemented and two unimplemented, while recognising reforms including new procurement safeguards, improved access-to-information rules and planned parallel financial investigations. Significant gaps remain around the independence of judicial and law-enforcement institutions, conflicts of interest, asset declarations, whistleblower protection, beneficial ownership and corporate liability, leading GRECO to initiate its non-compliance procedure and request further progress by March 2027.
