His Honour Judge Michael Hopmeier is a Circuit Judge sitting at Southwark Crown Court, London, United Kingdom, specialising in serious economic crime and asset recovery (confiscating the proceeds of crime) cases. He is as an Honorary Visiting Professor of Law at City, University of London and has been Honorary Professor of Law at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He is a Bencher of Middle Temple and holds degrees from Oxford and London Universities. He is a Diversity and Community Relations Judge in the UK.

In 2017 he was appointed Director of the Long and Complex Trials Course at the UK Judicial College and regularly trains Judges and Prosecutors on asset recovery. In 2018 he was appointed to the Advisory Editorial Board of Blackstones’ Criminal Practice. In 2018 he was appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee to the International Justice Partnership, York University, Toronto, Canada. He is an editor of Halsburys Laws of England on the Chapter on Money-laundering. In 2020 he was appointed a Deemster on the Isle of Man, sitting part-time at first instance and on the Isle of Man Court of Appeal.

Since 2008, he has regularly trained and lectured to Judges and Prosecutors overseas on aspects of fighting economic crime, fraud, corruption, money-laundering and on asset recovery. In 2018 , 2019 and 2020 he has lectured and trained Judges and Prosecutors in Strasbourg, Guyana, Germany (X4), Malta, Jamaica, Romania, Kenya, Spain, Sri Lanka (X2), Argentina (x2) , Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Latvia, Kosovo, Greece, Belgium, Cayman and South Africa.
He is a joint Editor of Millington and Sutherland Williams on “The Proceeds of Crime” (5th Edition) published by Oxford University Press, February 2018 and author of a Guide to Restraint and Confiscation published by the UK Judicial College in January 2020.
