Matthew Dewsbury

About

Matt is the Group Head of Financial Crime Investigations at HSBC, responsible for investigations into all financial crime matters across the Group and with an overarching objective of continuously strengthening and optimising the work of circa 1800 investigators globally. He believes he has got the best job in the bank and is passionate about working in partnership with law enforcement and the industry to more effectively and proactively disrupt serious criminal activity.

In his nineteen-year career at HSBC, he has performed various executive roles including that of the Group’s Head of Fraud Risk and as Chief Operating Officer for the global ‘Security & Fraud’ function.  He particularly enjoys the richness and cultural diversity of managing teams around the world and considers that to be a great privilege. Most of Matt’s work at HSBC has been focused on driving more precise risk management and on improving organisational effectiveness in that field through operating model redesign and implementation. He has also been fortunate enough to successfully design and lead a number of innovative multi-jurisdictional projects, from improving staff screening for the Group globally, to counter-terrorism physical security site upgrades across Asia.  Prior to joining HSBC, he worked as a Police Detective in the UK.
