Giles Thomson is President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for the 2026–2028 term. He also serves as Director for Economic Crime and Sanctions at HM Treasury, where he leads the UK’s anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and financial sanctions policy, including oversight of the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI).

With more than 20 years’ experience in the UK Civil Service, Giles has been the UK’s Head of Delegation to the FATF since 2016 and previously co-chaired the FATF’s Global Network Coordination Group. As FATF President, he is leading the global agenda to strengthen the fight against illicit finance, with priorities including combating fraud, enhancing risk-based supervision, and improving cross-border information sharing
