About
Berna Gungenci Kilincoglu is an accomplished legal and compliance professional, currently serving as Associate Director in the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London, UK. In her role as part of the Project Integrity team, Berna focuses on ex-ante due diligence and the prevention of fraud within the EBRD’s operations. She also plays a pivotal role as OCCO lead, spearheading capacity building efforts and directing the Anti-Corruption and Corporate Governance Action Plans workstream for the EBRD’s clients.
Prior to joining the EBRD, Berna served as General Counsel & Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at ENGIE (GDF Suez) in Istanbul, Turkey. There, she managed all legal, compliance, and ethics matters for ENGIE’s local assets and supported strategic decisions at both senior management and Board level. Berna’s earlier experience includes senior roles at Clifford Chance LLP in Istanbul, specialising in project finance and cross-border transactions, as well as at White & Case LLP in Ankara, advising on corporate, energy, and banking law. She also worked as an Associate Lawyer in the Office of the General Counsel at the EBRD, where she provided legal expertise on multi-jurisdictional lending and investment operations.
Berna holds an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center and an LL.B. with Honours from Bilkent University.
