About

Alan is a Partner in commercial litigation, specialising in corporate crime and financial services regulation.

Alan has acted in relation to some of the most high-profile and complex multi-jurisdictional investigations commenced by enforcement agencies in the UK, USA, Europe and Far East. His work has included advising in relation to allegations of bribery and corruption, insider dealing, tax evasion, manipulation of LIBOR and breaches of competition law.

He has acted for clients faced with extradition and advises on mutual legal assistance, extra-territorial criminal liability and asset freezing

Alan has particular experience in acting for individuals who are the subject of enforcement action by the Financial Services Authority. He was involved in two of the highest-value insider dealing cases brought by the Financial Services Authority, and has acted in cases where the FSA / FCA has been persuaded not to commence enforcement action.

Alan also has experience of market abuse cases brought by the FSA, assisting in a case which saw the Authority utilise the power contained in section 381(1) of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 for the first time to secure a Restraining Injunction in the Chancery Division as an alternative to criminal enforcement. The FSA applied the new penalties regime contained in the Decision Procedure and Penalties Manual for the first time.

Alan is currently advising in relation to the global investigation into alleged manipulation of foreign exchange (Forex / FX) benchmarks.
