The updated guidance directs IMF staff to examine financial-integrity weaknesses when they could materially affect macroeconomic stability, financial-sector resilience, external stability or the effectiveness of Fund-supported programmes. It replaces guidance issued in 2012 and reflects the IMF’s growing emphasis on the economic consequences of illicit finance, rather than treating AML/CFT solely as a technical compliance issue.
