CONFERENCE VENUE

We are proud to be hosting this year’s event in the magnificent Drapers’ Hall, which is situated in the heart of the City, London’s financial centre. It is located on Throgmorton Avenue, near London Wall - for venue map click here»

The fine Livery Dining Hall, Drawing Room, Court Room, Library and garden and courtyard have all been reserved to provide a unique historic setting for the conference.

Drapers' Hall preserves a very special collection of archives, works of art, silver and artefacts created and developed over the centuries. The Livery Hall was enlarged to its present size by Herbert Williams in the 1860s. The ceiling composition was painted by Herbert Draper between 1903 and 1910. The central image is from The Tempest, the north and south panels contain scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream and the four spandrels represent History, Science, Ethics and Literature. Between the marble columns hang a collection of royal portraits.

In the Court Room, over the chimney-piece hangs the portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Sergei Pavlenko. This portrait was commissioned in 1998 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty's admission to the Freedom of the Drapers' Company. The Queen honoured the Company by unveiling the portrait on 1st November 2000.

The present garden walls, gates and railings were designed by Stephen Dykes Bower in the 1970s. The long tradition of mulberry trees growing in the garden is maintained by the trees planted by Her Majesty The Queen in 1955 and The Prince of Wales in 1971.

Ranked third in precedence of the Great Twelve Livery Companies, the Drapers' Company continues to support the City of London; its Liverymen carry out important functions in the elections of the government of the City of London and certain of its officers.

The origins of The Drapers' Company are rooted in mutual help and support. The principal role of the Company today is the administration of the many Charitable Trusts that have been left in its care over the centuries.
